Visual Twitter

3 Comments 14 January 2008

The Twitter API has evolved into yet another way to communicate what you are doing, except this time it’s not about telling others what you are doing but showing others what you are doing……….

“A global community of users answering the question……What are you doing? Answer by sending a picture from your camera phone.”

This technology operates with your current Twitter account, all you have to do is enter in your mobile phone number and be logged in to your account for your pictures to show up. I’m not sure what they are doing to monitor any x-rated photos but you can bet Doug March will think of something that captures all the naughty pictures that come in. A Visual Twittertale perhaps? How ’bout it Doug?

This was the logical transition from text twittering. And the next step seems to be voice, and then video…

I don’t know though. The thing that makes Twitter appealing is it’s low overhead. It is essentially micro-blogging.

With most cell-phones today, however, taking a picture, much less sending it somewhere, is a hassle (or maybe it’s just my phone!). I’m not sure if the idea of picture Twittering supports the essence of Twitter.

Should be interesting to see how quickly it spreads.

Here is a different path they could have taken: allow people to speak their Twitter updates into their phone, and have the website convert it to text. Call 1-800-TWITTER. Of course the system recognizes your number and logs you in automatically. Speak what you’re doing at that time. Hang up. Voila!

  2. That is a great idea and I actually think there are some applications that you can use to do that. Jott might be one to try but I don’t think there is an actual Twitter ap yet.

“monitor any x-rated photos”, man I hope I didn’t ruin my reputation with twittertale, hehe. I do have an idea for the next step in twittering, however it does not deal at all with the “dark side” of the web. Actually puts twitter to great use. Hopefully soon we can create it and share it with all. We have some updated coming to politweets hopefully by this time next week.
