Measurement: Fun Educational iPhone App

3 Comments 20 January 2011

In July of 2010, we reviewed Number Sense, a children’s educational iPhone app designed by Punflay.  Now we are back again, to tell you about Measurement, their latest addition to the series.

With fun graphics, cartoon characters, and sound effects, it is easy for children to enjoy!  Like Number Sense, Measurement contains five games in one package, but these games will introduce your kindergartner to concepts of measurement, rather than numbers.

CRAZY CLOCK
Teaches your child how to tell time but asking to turn the clock hands to familiar times of the day, such as lunch time.

SCALE TALE
Your child will learn to associate weights with common food items when the friendly monster asks which is heavier.

FILL ME UP
A great way to introduce your child to the concept of volume.  He or she will be asked to accomplish tasks like filling up the cookie jar or the juice pitcher.

LONG AND SHORT
Shows your child how to compare lengths of objects by asking questions like, “Which caterpillar is longer?”

ACTION MONTH
Your child will become familiar with the names of the months  by dragging the letters into the appropriate empty spaces.

To sum everything up, Measurement is a great way to educate your child, while keeping him or her entertained at the same time.

I downloaded Number Sense to help my toddler with her numbers and I think it worked for her. I’m contemplating on downloading this new app, too. I’m really a fan of good apps. If it’s alright, I’d like to recommend my favorite app, Intuition (http://www.iconapps.com). It has done a good job of helping me organize and saving my sanity LOL.

I’ve just got an iPad (yeah, sort of late to the game, I know), but I’m making up for it by downloading all sorts of apps, including the apps for my preschooler. We are concentrating on math now so this will definitely come in handy. Oh, and we are looking for language learning apps too. I’ve found Babblemania (www.babblemania.com) and my son loves it so far. Any other recommendations?
