0 Comments 12 October 2011

The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and the faint scent of firewood is lingering all around - it is fall. This is always a fun time of year; Halloween is just around the corner, everything and everyone are colorful and the weather is extremely comfortable. There are a ton of fun activities for you and the kids this season, the trick is to make some of the most common forms of fall entertainment all your own.

1. Carve Pumpkins

Don’t just carve a pumpkin and be done, make this an all day experience. One of the best parts about this activity is choosing your pumpkin. It can be a fun idea to get a large pumpkin and a small pumpkin, to represent you and your child. Once you get home, cut the tops out of each pumpkin and have fun getting all the seeds out. Be sure to save the seeds so you can roast them for a snack later, or make homemade pumpkin pie. When you start carving the faces, let your child try to outline the face he or she wants on each pumpkin and then carve it out the best you can. In fact, if you or a family member will be having a baby soon, you can even throw a pumpkin baby shower. That way you can involve your other kids in the planning and decorating. Here’s a cool article on how to plan a baby shower that will help you get everything organized for your party.

2. Play in Leaf Piles

Whether you decide to jump in the pile or make a fort out of it, make the pile fresh to avoid any snakes or spiders. The bigger the pile the better, but try to get bundled up so it is more comfortable. This is also a great opportunity to let the photographer in you come out. The scene is perfect and the kids are already smiling.

There are a million things to do in the park. This is a great opportunity to teach your child about nature and the importance of taking care of the environment. Another great thing about the park, especially large ones, is that you can go exploring.
