I am so excited!! I mean, I think Facebook Live is totally awesome and I get that the powers that be at Facebook are really trying to promote video but I do get a little insecure of being on camera all by myself and just….well, just talking. So when they made the announcement that by the end of summer we will actually be able to broadcast a Live video with a friend, like someone in another place, I did a little dance…….
“The ability to stream a broadcast with two people in different locations — sort of like a remote interview. Essentially, you can invite a friend to “drop in” on your broadcast and join the conversation.”
Do you realize how many doors this opens? I hope you’re listening Monica because we are so going to do this!
The other cool thing that Facebook is rolling out is a waiting room type feature. This allows the people waiting for a Live broadcast to start to be notified when the video is about to go Live……
“Content creators can pre-schedule the time they are going live, which will allow Facebook to send users a notification before the stream starts so they can be waiting when you go live.”
Evidently broadcasters were waiting until they had a lot of people tuned in and this was creating a problem for the people waiting….they were getting bored and leaving the broadcast.
The last update announced at VidCon is the new “mask” feature.
“Broadcasting live to your friends can take a lot of guts, especially if you don’t have any interesting content to show them. Letting users broadcast live from MSQRD will arm them with funny content that should encourage them to go live more often.”
So these three, pretty significant, changes just further stress the importance of using Facebook Live video. They are doing everything they can to increase viewer time and engagement so I say let’s take Facebook’s hint and go for it! Put on a mask and go Live….the least that can happen is our broadcast gets pushed higher in the newsfeed and that’s what we really want anyway…right?
