Day 2 - Learning the Steps!
Congratulations! Your page is looking totally fabulous my friend! Now it’s time to work on some of the actual steps that will make our pages move with ease.
Go to your page and in the upper right hand corner you will click on “Settings”. You will be taken to a page that looks like this:
This is the “General” section. I am going to take you through spins and twirls to get all your settings ready to Tango!
We have already added our page to “Favorites” and “Unpublished” our page before we loaded our images so go to the tab that says “visitor posts” and click on edit. Unless you have a controversial topic or product, most social media marketers suggest setting this up so that anyone can post to your page timeline. Your page is all about creating a conversations! By letting visitors post with photos, video and links, your are increasing the opportunity for engagement on your page.
“Newsfeed audience and visibility for posts” is the next thing on our list so click “edit” there. This is a great tool if perhaps there is a certain demographic that you only want to see your page. Such as, women or just men or a certain age group.
Now, let’s take a look at “Messages”. My recommendation is to set this feature up to allow people to contact you privately through messaging.
“Tagging Ability” allows you to give permission to only people you want doing any tagging on your page. The same goes for the next feature “Others Tagging Ability”.
The next four choices are totally up to you. “Country Restrictions”, “Age Restrictions”, “Page Moderation”, and “Profanity Filter”. These give you the control over who sees your page and what is allowed to be posted. You can customize these for certain words or demographics. If your page is related to alcohol or has adult content then you will need to set the appropriate age restriction in this area. To keep it easy, set the age to 18 if your content is adult content or tobacco related and 21 if your content is alcohol related.
“Similar Page Suggestions” is a cool feature because it is Facebook’s way of recommending other pages to visitors that like and come to your page. Facebook usually shows 3-5 options. What’s cool is what happens next. If you check the box, then your page will be shown when other people are on someone else’s page!! Facebook has added the option of being able to post in different languages with the “Post in Multiple Languages” feature. If you have people on your team that want to post in another language to meet the needs of those in other countries, then this is a must have tool for you and your team.
“Comment Ranking” gives you the option of choosing to have the posts that get the most comments and likes moved to the top. This is a great way to keep a good conversation going on with one of your posts. Definitely opt-in for this feature.
Additionally, “Download Page” is a great way to get a copy of your page, posts, photos, videos and your page info if you need it.
“Merge Pages” is something you most likely won’t have to think about… unless you have set up a page before and want to combine it with your new one. I actually had to do this after I re-branded and wanted to merge my personal blog Facebook page with my new business page. It worked great and I added all my followers without a hitch!
Last, is the infamous delete button, or “Remove Page” as it says. If you decide you want to delete your page, Facebook gives you 14 days to change your mind. I really like this feature because it allows some grace for any hasty decisions one might make in regards to deleting their page.
This concludes the “General” section of our settings. Let’s now take a look at “Messaging” under the “General” tab on the left.
“Messaging” is one of Facebook’s newer features. It allows you to set up how people can message your page. It is a way to make messaging a bit more business-like in the event a customer or colleague is trying to reach you.
Basically, it is a short cut created to send a message by using the return key or “enter” button.
Facebook has also provided some automated responses with their “Response Assistant” making it easy to get back to someone quickly and easily. You can also customize the responses as well.
Wow! Take a deep breath! You have worked really hard today, learning all these new dance moves and I’m sure you’re pooped. So, put your feet up and relax because tomorrow we will pick up where we are leaving off today! We’ll be skipping over “Page Info” and starting off with “Post Attribution“.
